I need a POB/DOB for this woman per the DD Suggestion Report & I don't know the ins & outs of searching over there so I thought I'd ask the people in Scotland if they could help me.

I am in need of the POB, DOB & a free source. I have "links" that go to the Ancestry pay wall for those records, but no access at this time. Thanks for the help!

Pat,

This could be her in the 1841 Census, name Janet (?) age 6months, birthplace Dumfriesshire, with parents James and mother Mary.

"Scottish General Register Office: 1841 Census Returns database, FreeCEN (https://www.freecen.org.uk/search_records/5902e7a1e9379091b1d30188 : viewed 2 Oct 2023), James EDGAR in household of David EDGAR, Caplegill, Dumfriesshire, Scotland; from 1841 "England, Scotland and Wales census," database and images; citing The National Archives HO 107/842, Folio 1, Page 2, Schedule , The National Archives, Kew, Surrey.

Thank you to you both, Leslie & Doug, for your responses to my questions & for letting me know how I can do my own research with the search portion of ScotlandsPeople.

I should probably get used to researching in that area as my DNA results tell me that I am 53.2% North and West European & 46.8% Irish, Scottish, and Welsh.

Lesley pointed out the birth or baptism record for Janet (Jane and Janet are interchangeable). There are also records for three siblings (Jean, David, Margaret) on ScotlandsPeople.

Her parent's marriage is also on ScotlandsPeople and Jane's death record is also available.

I didn't include links since they aren't peristant. SIgn up for the free account and do some searches. Her birth and her siblings plus parents marriage are in the Old Parish Register part and her death is in the Statutory Registers since it was after 1855. The index to SP is free. The images have a fee.
Jean and Jane are interchangeable. Janet and Jessie are interchangeable. I would say that Jean born in 1842 would be same person as this profile. The age at death also matches up, and there is a Jessie Edgar living with father James in later census records, Jessie would refer to Janet.
