Help identifying parents of Ann (Butler) Stanton (1753-1808)

The parentage of Ann Butler who married James Stanton in Virginia in 1776 has long been seen as John & Elizabeth Butler in most family histories, however, there is no documentation for this.

While the actual marriage record (Blackwater Monthly Meeting) does not appear to have survived (or was not in Blackwater), the second marriage intention has survived but gives few clues. It simply mentions Joseph Butler, son of Wm, as appointed to attend the marriage. Some land records might indicate that Joseph was her brother and thus William her father but there is no corroboration for that.

Hinshaw Vol VI (p 122) under Stanton gives no maiden name or parentage for Ann Butler. In the Butler section for Blackwater, Ann does not appear though there are numerous Butler families in the monthly meeting. It has been suggested that the appointment of two men from Blackwater to attend the marriage and the marriage not being found in Blackwater records indicates that Ann was not from this meeting.

Ann disappears from recorded history after 1808 or 1809.

I believe it is time for some fresh eyes on this and any insight is welcome.
