I recently completed a DNA test with MyHeritage and through being linked to a lady in the USA I have been able to trace a HUNT line back to Ralph Hunt b.1613 England.

Am I able to confirm this DNA match with other sources before attempting to link the line to Thomas Hunt who married Margery Sawkins 15th Oct 1661, Canterbury, Kent.

Thomas is the limit of my research at the moment.

Thank you in advance for any assistance

Hi Kevin

You maybe interested to note that this the Ralph Hunt of Long Island group has several Y testers which you will find under group 078, mostly under the rudimentary testing of 37 markers at the very common R-M269.

However, it appears that three of them have actually gone Big Y and two actually with the attributed ancestry as noted have a much more defined group of R-Z41634 which seems to be a marker associated with him.

Interestingly there is an additional  with an additional sample still at the parent group of R-Z41632 perhaps 100 or so years earlier with a name of Hunter - it presents an interesting picture of name variants with Hunts which is not always the case.

If you wanted to see at least if you were "in the ballgame" you could download your kit and upload to this cladefinder and in a couple of minutes you will know whether at least your Haplogroup begins with R

If you end up with a different letter this could be equally interested and it would be worth noting on your profile for now

You might want to consider then a Y test with FTDNA as your male line has one opportunity to extend back in time and gain assurance whether this is your Hunt group  as Peter Roberts explains and you willl be considerably aided in your search by the fact that there are so many different Hunt groups tested.

Hope to see you there someday - I am a completely different group but with the surname of Hunt as well usually associated with de Vere.

Please add a tag DNA to your question so that members with DNA experience will see your post. I will venture that autosomal DNA from you will not reach back to the 1600's with any viability.  The confirmation would have to be triangulated and I don't think that can be done that far back. Y-DNA could help but there has to be others who also test for comparison.

It is possible through Y-DNA testing.  I recommend ordering the Y-DNA37 test from Family Tree DNA and then joining their Hunt Surname DNA Project
