The Quaker Darby family played a central role in the industrial revolution of the 18th century in Britain, and continued to be major industrialists in the 19th century. Their main involvement was in the iron industry in England and Wales, and they were responsible for the famous Iron Bridge in Shropshire, England. They made innovations in metallurgy, encouraged the development of steam engines (working with Boulton and Watt among others) and played a role in the early development of railways. Some of them have entries in Wikipedia and the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography.
Over the last month I've been engaged in a mini-project to ensure they have proper coverage on WikiTree. My main work on this is now complete. If you are interested in industrial history and Quakers' role in it, you might like to glance at some of their profiles. I suggest you start with Abraham Darby I, who was the effective founder of the family's iron business and work forwards in time from him.
