I wanted to share this family photo of Frank Davis with the community. Location: Oak Forest, Cook, Illinois, United States. Date: 1954. Click here for the image details page or here for the full-sized version (1600 x 1200).
Thanks for sharing this wonderful picture! When I click on the picture, it opens the right way! And even if I had to turn the monitor sideways, it's still great!
This is a common problem when uploading photos to any web site. The short answer is that various software programs don't agree on the orientation of images. A photo that looks fine on your computer might look sideways when uploaded to a web site. There is one way to fix this, and it requires the image to be uploaded again. Open the image in image editing software of your choice. Rotate it if necessary to appear right-side up. Now make any other change to the image -- a slight crop, a slight tweak to the contrast, just about anything. Now save the photo, and re-upload it. It will appear in the correct orientation. The trick is that merely rotating the image is not sufficient to ensure that it will be displayed correctly. There is a long technical explanation involving image rotation tags. Trust me. You don't want to go down that rabbit hole.
