Just as an aside... Every time I see the Cornbread image for our Cornbread Catchers team, I end up laughing.  It looks like cornbread made out of a Jiffy cornbread mix box in the 1970s.  My Grandma would have a good old Alabama hissy fit.  "Real" cornbread was made with white cornmeal, didn't have yeast to make it rise like cake, wasn't sweet, was cooked in a cast iron skillet, and flipped to brown on both sides.  Delicious hot and later cold, crumbled in a glass of milk.

I think the same thing!  Grandmama would be having a fit! Nothing like some good ole cornbread and buttermilk!!

What part of Alabama was your Grandma from?
Hi Sheila,

Lena Matilda (Mattox) Hampton, born in Holly Pond, lived in Lawrence County near Hickory Grove and Shiloh, then in Double Springs, and died in Northport.  She was one of 15 children, and had 9 children.  Generations overlapped, and two generations of double first cousins.  I'm related to almost everybody someway in Lawrence County, Cullman County, and Morgan County.

Hey, we're cousins 5th cousin twice removed on the Melton line!!

I agree with you both regarding the kind of cornbread in our image. The only difference for my family is that the cornbread batter went in cast iron in the oven, so we didn't flip it. But my favorite was when Momma had time and would make a version of Hot Water Cornbread. She learned how from my great-grandmother Lizzie (Fore) Driggers. Their version involved patting the pattie with milk before frying. I never learned to make it right (tried many times but something just doesn't work), so it is lost to my family.

I completely agree Willowdene! My grandmother in Kentucky would say the same thing. Maybe we can get a picture of the cast iron skillet cornbread. Enjoy the laughs.

Discord is giving me fits today. If I disappear, that's why. All of my messages since 7:30 are showing red, which I'm guessing means they are not being delivered.

My messages are doing the same on Discord. However, I can read your messages.
