Hear Ye, Hear Ye

If you are interested in people who are famous, notable, noted, significant, important, historic, heroic, or otherwise fascinating, then the Notables Project might be for you!

The idea behind this post is for anyone who needs help with connecting Notables to the tree to post to this thread and ask for help, or if you want to tell us whom you have successfully connected up, or if you want to join the Notables Project and get a badge.

Besides checking out the Notables Project page, don't forget to take a look at the Notables List page, where you can find lists of Notables who have profiles which aren't yet connected to the main tree. (For ideas on way to connect unconnected people and branches, see the Hints and Tips on the Connectors Chat page.)

Notables should fulfill the criteria to have at  least one Wikipedia page in any language to qualify as a Notable. But an entry in the country's NATIONAL Who's Who or a NATIONAL Biography is also acceptable as well.

The Notables team will decide if a Living Notable's Profile can be made Public or not. Usually that means the Notable has at least 3  Wikipedia Pages in other languages. The page or pages must also include the name of at least one close or nuclear family member (Specifically parents, siblings, spouse or child). if the page should also happen to list grandparents, aunts/uncles and cousins in the "other relatives" list, those would also be helpful.

I would like to join Notable team as I have worked on and created profiles for extended family members. I have this profile I am working on - Caroline Cassandra GRAVESON . Graveson-31 and also her father/

There doesn't seem to be any profiles in Wikiipedia for them.

Her 1937 lecture is mentioned here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swarthmore_Lecture
Thank you Judy and that is a real help.

Regards

Elaine.
I am distantly related to Caroline Cassandra GRAVESON (27 Degrees from) through my Lacy side of the family (paternal side) :)
Nice to hear from you Elizabeth and my connection is through my husband's side of the tree and I am 17 steps away. I stumbled on this profile by accident through a brother of Caroline who came to New Zealand and so it goes. I actually though he was a Mason by trade. I am adding her family members now and they are all connecting so far.  If you have Eggers, Kempthorne, Hill, Kempthorne surnames they are all about 10 steps.

Elaine
Hey Elaine!  Out of the 4 surnames you mentioned, I (so far) only have (very) distant Hill relations on my paternal side of the family :)
Hi Elaine - I noticed I hadn't awarded the badge to you yet, so that has been updated. Welcome to the Notables Team!

Hello,

I'm excited to join the Notables Project and contribute to the fascinating world of connecting significant historical figures. As a descendant of Nakano Takeko, I'm particularly interested in taking care of her page https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/%E4%B8%AD%E9%87%8E-5 and ensuring its accuracy and completeness. Nakano Takeko's legacy is of great importance to me, and I'm committed to preserving her story for future generations.

Thank you for the resources and guidance you've provided. I'm looking forward to collaborating with the Notables Project team and helping to enrich the profiles of remarkable individuals.

Best regards,

Evelyn (Sumiko Nakano)

I found the orphan Francis Grant 1st of Cullen and Monymusk and adopted it since he is my 7th Great grandfather.  I notice that he has been given no mother even though both Wikipedia and the Dictionary of National Biography have identified her.  Is this just an omission or is there some doubt about his mother?
by Michael Crawford-Butler G2G6 (8.8k points)
since his mother is sourced, I would suspect that it is just that nobody has yet found the time to work on this. So if you interested, please go ahead and create her profile.

I was trying to access the Entertainment subpage and it's currently showing as unlisted?
by Judi Stutz G2G6 Pilot (343k points)
edited by Judi Stutz
I see that as well. I'll get with David and find out what happened there. Thanks.

My mistake! I had the page set to Private. You should be able to access it now.

This does raise a good point that some members may not be aware of and others may not think about. Project Managers are often able to see things that others can't. For example, I had no problem viewing the Entertainment Page despite the fact that nobody else could. Therefore, I was oblivious to the problem. If you see a problem like this (a locked page, an unviewable image, a broken link, etc.) let a project manager know - please don't assume we will catch it eventually as that actually may never happen.

Thanks for catching this Judi.

Whitey Von Nieda, NBA guard/forward who last played for the Baltimore Bullets in 1950, has passed away at the age of 101. He was the oldest living former NBA player, as so far is the only one to reach the age of 100.

Hi Notables Project leaders, I would like to join the Notables Project.

I am the Project Coordinator for the Australia Project, and have been assisting the Project leader to identify and organise Australian unlisted Living Notables and working on identifying the ones eligible for limited opening under the Notables Project guidelines.

I'd like to join the Project, to keep in touch with the Notables Project's guidelines and communications in this area.

Thank you.

I Would like to join the notables project. I adopted a profile of a likely relative by the name of Pendleton. As I have several Pendletons . Not sure of our connection yet but sure there probably is one, lol.

I have another profile I created that I think qualifies as a notable. My in-law side. He was a state Senator in Pennsylvania and an author of poetry as well as owning a newspaper. How would you find out if he appears in Whos who? As a state house member, I don’t think he has a Wikipedia page yet. Well he does but in German or something, lol. He does have this https://archives.house.state.pa.us/people/member-biography?ID=1774

(UK) Giles Broadbent of the band Stringfever (UK) has passed away after a short illness.

Blue Peter star Diane-Louise Jordan's heartache as husband Giles Broadbent dies age 51

The band Stringfever competed on the BBC Show ''When Will I Be Famous?'' in 2007 and were knocked out by The Red Hot Chili Pipers. Later that same year they were in-studio guests on the UK children's show ''Space Pirates''.

In 2015, they collaborated with the singing duo Electro Velvet on the EuroVision Song Contest entry ''Still in Love with You''.

They have no Wikipedia page themselves but are mentioned upon three other pages.

It's generally "iffy" if they have received a mention on a Wikipedia page, but have no page themselves. We usually do not include them as Notables, as it's awkward as to where to draw the line. Often many people are mentioned in Wikipedia pages who have no central Notable element to them, or have never achieved the level of Notability that Wikipedia requires. So we'd have to spend time reviewing their requirements, should someone submit them for Notable status, and since they don't have a Wikipedia page, we would need their profile to take the place of a Wikipedia page. It would need to outline what they're Notable for, provide links and references, sources and documentation, and those would need to be independent and significant enough to qualify them. So if someone is interested, they could pursue this, but we couldn't just award them the status without enough proof.
Fair enough. If his wife, who is an actress, has the hallmarks for being a notable, I'll just connect him to her and at least he will have a profile.

I could've sworn I'd signed up but I have no badge to date. I have been working on the Pro-Wrestling notables for the past month. Still waiting for notice if this is going to actually be something formalized or not. I will continue to work on these notables until told otherwise.
by Lori Zukerman G2G6 Pilot (153k points)
Hi Lori. Notables is not a wholly "formal" effort. There are thousands and thousands of Notables, so for a project team to micro-manage all those profiles would take a huge team of committed researchers with a fairly set approach to how we handle things. We have a small team of leaders who work alongside a good number of talented genealogists like yourself who participate when they're able on Notable profiles and their families. That being said, it's not an absolute requirement to be badged in the project, however, we do track who has been a part of the project, how long they've participated, what sort of profiles you work on, and this gives us some ideas about how to guide the project in general. I'll have your badge out to you shortly, so that we can check that box, and we can proceed from there. We're happy to have you working on these profiles and look forward to continuing to making progress with Notables in general. Thanks!
Lori,

Thanks for all the work you've done on the August WWF Challenge. It has definitely been noticed and appreciated. We do have a permanent Pro-Wrestling Project in the works and I expect to have it up before the month is over. The delay is simply a case of me having bitten off more than I could chew (both on and off WikiTree). Once the new project is up I'll post a G2G message and will also leave a note on the August WWF Challenge.
Thank you Scott! I wasn't trying to be pushy. I promise.

David- wonderful to hear! I'm still working away on JYD and Crash Holly. Let me know is you need any help!!
No worries! I'm always glad to help out where I can.

Jim Broadbent has become a Living Notable.  He will show as connected tomorrow after the nightly update.  His current CC7 is 94.  Jim is often best-known as 'Professor Slughorn' in the Harry Potter movies.  He also appears in the Paddington movies.
