In my tree my father is Carl Burney But his father is James William Burney not McBurney. I need to fix it. I have no McBurney in my family.

Is the profile https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/McBurney-335 a completely different person (not your father's father), or is the issue that the last name is spelled wrong?

If the biography is consistent with your grandfather, but the name is spelled wrong, you need to open conversation with the manager of the McBurney-335 regarding the name. The last name can be changed, but before that happens we need to make sure that the folks interested in the profile are in agreement about (or at least accept) the change. It's surprisingly common for different branches of a family to have different ideas about the "correct" family name.

If McBurney-335 is a completely different person than your grandfather, then Nelda's advice is appropriate.

I see that you already removed Ann (Frame) McBurney (1842-1910) as mother of James William (McBurney) Burney (1860-1924). That edit suggests that you think that the James William McBurney profile does represent your grandfather, but that the mother who was connected to him by another member is incorrect. That looks like a problem! Here on Wikitree, we need to collaborate on the profiles of family members that we share with other members. We should not be disconnecting relatives from other people's families without prior communication.

Hi Martha, it looks like you've mistakenly added James McBurney as Carl's father. James McBurney lived in New Brunswick. It looks like you changed the information in James's profile to try to change him into a different man with a similar name, a Jim William Burney of Texas.

Like Nelda said, you need to remove Carl's current father (Edit > Replace/Remove father, on the right side of the page), then you need to create a new profile for Jim William Burney of Texas (from Carl's profile, Edit > Add father). Then the original information and mother for James McBurney should be restored.

Welcome. Please see the comments on your question: Wikitree uses connections between profiles. Every person ever has only one profile, and there are many many with similar information.

There is also no such thing as 'my tree' or 'erase'. Please read up on the concept of one tree and the way Wikitree works, provide sources first and contact the profiles managers before removing relationships.

On Carl's profile, click on the "Edit" tab, then click on "remove/replace father" under James William McBurney's name.

i have removed that profile from your father’s profile, and put the data back to the way it was.

if you can’t find your grandfather’s profile in Wikitree, create a new profile. don’t use an existing profile for a completely different person with different info in a different country/state.
