Who were the parents of Louisa Grace Hill, Lewis Fitch of New Haven's wife, born abt 1806, died abt 1852 in New Haven

Question

Lousia Grace Hill, born abt. 1806 in CT, married to Lewis Fitch, New Haven, CT and she died in 1852 in New Haven.  I am trying to confirm her parents - some records say New Haven and some say she was born in Glastonbury, CT.  I believe she was born in New haven given her marriage and death notices/certificates.

Well I see the problem.

A Louisa Hills d/o Elijah and Mary was born in Glastonbury 15 Nov 1806. ["Connecticut, Vital Records, Prior to 1850," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSKJ-SSKX-Y?cc=2843390 : 14 April 2022), > image 1 of 1; compiled by Lucius A. and Lucius B. Barbour, housed at State Library, Hartford, Connecticut.]. The alleged father Elijah died in Glastonbury in 1814. He does not appear to have left a will. It wouldn't do any good anyway because his children would have been minors and Louisa would not have been married yet.

And a Louise Grace Hill born in New Haven 10 June 1806, d. 13 July 1852 in New Haven, married Lewis Fitch 20 Aug 1826. [Society of Colonial Wars in Massachusetts Membership Applications, 1560-1970. (Online database: AmericanAncestors.org, New England Historic Genealogical Society, 2018). https://www.americanancestors.org/DB2755/i/58221/952-co2/1427021068 ]. Unfortunately the application does not list her parents. In the  CONNECTICUT COURANT, Monday, Aug 28, 1826
Hartford, CT, Vol: LXII, Issue: 3214,  Page: 3 "At New Haven, Mr. Lewis Fitch of Norwalk married Miss Grace L. Hill .

I don't see a birth record for Grace Hill either in New Haven or the Barbour Collection.

I suspect that this is a case of Genealogy hates a vacumn. Because no one could find a birth for Louisa Grace Hill in New Haven they latched onto the 1806 birth in Glastonbury. My gut feeling is that she is not the d/o Elijah.

However, Lewis's profile shows his spouse is listed as Emily Gracia Smith whose profile uses a Family Search entry as a source. FindAGrave has a photo of the grave monument showing Louis Fitch d. Dec. 1, 1891, wife Louisa Grace Hill d. July 13, 1852, AND wife Emily Gratia [sic.] d. Mar. 12, 1901. It appears Louis remarried, and his profile does not include his first wife. Not relevant to the OP's question, but does indicate that his profile needs work.

You're right - Lewis and Louisa left New Haven for Macon, GA.  Lewis was a minister there and later moved back to New Haven about 1839. Her name is recorded in New Haven's church records as Louisa G Fitch Connecticut, U.S., Church Record Abstracts, 1630-1920, Volume, 78, Part 1, page 199.  Louisa Fitch is recorded as having died on 13 Jul 1852, buried in New Haven. Connecticut Deaths and Burials, 1772–1934." Index. FamilySearch, Salt Lake City, Utah, 2009, 2010. Index entries derived from digital copies of original and compiled records. FHL Film Number 3124.  Her name is also noted in the Hale Collection of Cemetery inscriptions as Mrs. Louisa G. Fitch, death 13 Jul 1852 in New Haven.  I will try connecting with the New Haven town clerk again - perhaps she was born in New Haven County rather than in that town.

Yes - Louisa died young at age 46 years when Lewis was 50 and there were at least 6 children at home.  Emily Smith married Lewis about a year after Louisa's death.
