How do I physically confirm Wikitree DNA matches?

I have been trying for years now to connect my DNA matches through adding relatives. It seems I am no further along in my tree than I was when I started.

I have a lot of close DNA relatives on Wikitree. What am I doing wrong in order to add more confirmed DNA matches?

Thank you all for trying to help me.

I am still not sure I understand the answers completely. Am I in the correct place on my Wikitree wall if the comment comes back and says “ At most six GEDCOM Downloads may be processed per day?

Gedcom downloads don't have anything to do with DNA so doesn't sound like you are in the right place.
Thank you Peggy.
Terri, the complete instructions for using DNA to confirm relationships on WikiTree are here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:DNA_Confirmation

I recommend that you read those instructions carefully. If there's anything there that you don't understand, then ask on G2G. Once you understand the process in at least a general way, and you've found a DNA match with a cousin (or other relative), you can use the DNA Confirmation Citation Maker: https://apps.wikitree.com/apps/clarke11007/DNAconf.php   It will tell you which profiles have one or both parents who can be marked 'confirmed with DNA', based on that match. The app will also create an appropriate DNA confirmation statement for you to add to that person's profile.
Thank you Kay. Now I understand.

:)
Have you tried the DNA Confirmation Citation Maker yet? I highly recommend it. I am not tech savvy or really sharp with DNA. I was able to easily make the DNA Confirmations.

You can see examples of the DNA Confirmations sources I did for my mother https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Laiti-2 and grandmother https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Blackburn-3255
Thanks Nancy.

Hi Terri,

If I’m correct, WT can’t determine any DNA result. The result is only visible if those relatives add their DNA results to WT and give consent in using the relativity theory.

It's not exactly a 'DNA result', because WT doesn't hold DNA results.  It only holds the fact that you have taken a test, and where.

It's a matter of finding DNA matches on Ancestry, up to 3rd cousin level, or MyHeritage or Gedmatch for any cousin level, with 2 cousins with triangulated separate lines of descent from a shared ancestor, then adding the DNA confirmation statements to the profiles on WT, Greg Clarkes app is great for that part.

If you copy your test to MyHeritage you will open up a new pool of testers to match to.
Although we are 8th cousins I don't get a match to you on Ancestry. I do have a lot of Keast family matches on MyHeritage and also for my other Cornish families.

Thanks Gary. I use to be a member of Myheritage , but I am no longer a member. My DNA was uploaded to the website though.
You don’t have to be a member of my heritage to use your DNA results and matches there

Login to GEDmatch.com.  Then login to WikiTree and go to your WikiTree profile.  Under your DNA Connections, click on your GEDmatch ID.  That link takes you to GEDmatch’s One-to-many report for you.  Your closest matches will be at the top. Look at your matches who share over 100 cMs with you.  They are likely 3rd cousins or closer.  Invite each of them to join WikiTree and add their GEDmatch ID.

One step is confirming that your shared ancestral lines are accurate.

As you look at more distant matches in GEDmatch you hopefully will find some of them have documented ancestors in their tree (who are not yet in your tree) who would be your ancestors.

Sincerely, Peter

Nope.  GEDCOM and WikiTree’s GED Compare are for genealogy files.  GEDmatch.com is a separate database for autosomal (and X) DNA.

You need to use a third-party site like Gedmatch to determine whether any of the possible DNA connections shown on Wikitree are actually connected to you by DNA.  The DNA relatives shown in Wikitree are totally based on tree information people have entered here.

Have you downloaded a copy of your DNA Raw Data to your computer as yet?

It is your intellectual property and you are entitled to a copy free of charge.

There are videos on YouTube showing how this is done.

Once you have it you can upload a copy of it to www.gedmatch.com
Be sure to write down the kit number that Gedmatch gives you ‘Somewhere Safe’ as you will need it later to perform various tests.

Note Gedmatch warns against unzipping the file as that can corrupt the data.

Once Gedmatch is working (which typically takes about three working days),
do a One to Many test, as it will display all of your cousins.
