How do you go about finding free space projects?

I find free space profiles extremely useful, but I have no idea how to search for them. I have been meaning to put in a request for a simple keyword search field at the top of the page. I’ve also thought about requesting tabs for first and last name search fields, that would say exact or not exact… As in spelling. Can anybody direct me?

Hi Geoff. Do you mean free-space profiles or free-space projects?

A search for free-space profiles is available at the bottom of the main WikiTree Search page

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Special:SearchPerson

in the "Search for Any Text" section. Select the radio button "Free-Space Profiles". That search is provided by Google and is not complete, but is often very useful.

For exact and not exact first and last name searching, again look at

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Special:SearchPerson

Scroll down a bit, and note this section, where you can select different exactness options:

Include name variant matches? Help

I guess that’s what I get for never scrolling all the way to the bottom of the page! Thanks… It was there all along. I guess I need to start paying attention to everything that’s available on each page.

If you enter names into the search boxes at the top of pages, then Search, if you scroll below the returned Results, there are options that you can select, including exact last name, first, name, etc.

To find space pages on Wikitree, use Google to search for what you are looking for, but also include 'Wikitree' or 'Wikitree space'

I know we can use Google to search, but why do we have to go outside the website to find something on it? I can just imagine trying to search through all the Smiths, whether you do it by birthdate or alphabetically, you still have to scroll page after page after page after page. And if you’re just using the surname, it doesn’t give you the icons underneath each page to be able to go back-and-forth or to choose a page amongst multiple pages. All it has are black back-and-forth icons. I’m lucky that most of my names are not quite so common, so I can use both alphabetical end dates to search.

For Space pages, I find using Google is a quicker way.  Some people will search for a profile name using Google also. If you look at the very bottom of the Search page, it has a 'Search for any text' and you can select Free Space Profiles or All Wikiree Pages, but it states it is using Google. The returned results from google will include space pages as well as profiles.

In the 'Search for a Person' section, you can limit the results based on a date (date range is in the options below it), location, parent name, as well as exact or variant names.
