Betham, Crossle and Thrift will abstracts now on Ancestry

Ancestry.com has just added a new record set Ireland, Abstracts of Wills and Marriages 1620-1923. It explains Original data: Crossle, Betham and Thrift Genealogical Abstracts. Dublin, Ireland: Microfilm of original records at the National Archives.

Some of these are on-line at the National Library of Ireland (not the National Archives); more are available on microfilm at FamilySearch and the same records have for some years been available on FindmyPast. Their addition to Ancestry, if they are reasonably complete and well-indexed, will be a help to those with an Ancestry subscription but not one to FindmyPast.

These abstracts are explained in Irish Quaker Sources and Resources, section on Wills and Probate.

There's also the Index to testamentary documents in the Public Record Office, Dublin, 15th-20th century - https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/1047420?availability=Family%20History%20Library. This refers to 45000+ testamentary records held by the National Archives. About half the records are wills mainly post-1858, the other half refer to abstracts and Marriage Licence Bonds..
This really is a great resource. I had previously noticed the huge number of records but not the card index system (also filmed and available on FamilySearch) which makes it possible to find what you want.

And to make that search easier, FindmyPast has recently added a search on the card index which is much faster than browsing through the FS films. Annoyingly, FMP does not tell you that the underlying documents are available on line, but they are, and it does give you the reference number that you need.

I have added a description of it here https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Irish_Quaker_sources_and_resources#Miscellaneous_testamentary_records

Many thanks Alan. As noted not just will abstracts but many other tangentials here.
