I’m New at this!  I’m curious about my paternal and maternal ancestry. My father’s surname is Brown. Born in the early 1900,s to a Maroon mother (Louise María Young - born in the Cickpit mountains and later had my father Alexander T. Brown, fathered by George Brown from River-head, st Ann.

My Mither, Ethlin Joyce Parkin was born to Katy Gomez (daughter of Archibald Gomez - a Portuguese merchant from Madeira) and Archibald Parkin, son of Archibald Parkin from Liverpool, England.

A heck of a story but that’s what I was told.

If you need help finding details of your family, we have some links to help you.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Adding_Family

The General rule is to start with yourself, add your parents, and then your grandparents, and great grandparents, etc. Don't forget to add sources.

You continue going backwards until eventually one of your ancestors shows up already listed on wikitree.

Once you can connect to an ancestral profile, then your family will become "connected" to the global tree.

I also forgot to mention add in as many siblings as possible for each generation in order to expand the possibility of making a connection to the global tree.
Thank you Roxanne!  I’m in the process of traveling but will soon have the time to put more effort in accessing all the info that will help me know a little more about my ancestry.  Bless you!

Hi Chris, thanks for your answer. My grandma’s name was Marie Louise Young but I didn’t know she was married to my Grandpa George M Brown. I know she had Alex and Doris for Grandpa George, but he married someone else. She actually got married to Isach Cunningham. I think he was from St Ann orSt Catherine. They had many children.

She had three children with George one died Reuben b-1914-1916
Wow!  This is amazing.  Thanks I have noted this info for the family tree.

Hi Arlene,

You have started looking in the right direction (G2G) or genealogist to genealogist. As a guest, look around, explore, and look at the pull down menus. WikiTree also has special project categories... Jamaica might be something worth looking into (just a guess from your inquiry). Happy hunting!

Hi Mark. Thanks for your gracious feedback and ‘helps’. I’m traveling and a little distracted at the moment. But once I settle back home I’ll explore. I would love to also know more about my Parkin/Gomez/Viera family as well.

I a the “out-of-wedlock child of Alex and Ethlin and my only real connections to my maternal family history was through my Aunt Dolce who was married to Sibert Brown.

It’s fascinating to find out the ancestral history if we have the time
