Robbie Robertson, the songwriter & guitarist who worked with Bob Dylan, & the Band, died today at the age of 80. As my father described it, his music was a major part of the 'soundtrack' of his childhood, & I too have enjoyed listening to his work over the years
Robbie's mother, Rosemarie, grew up on the Six Nations Reserve near Toronto, & is said to have been of Kanienʼkehá:ka & Gayogo̱hó:nǫʼ heritage. I've found her in the 1931 census with extended family, but haven't been able to ID for certain her parents.
When Robbie was a teenager, his mother revealed to him that his father was not James Robertson, her husband, but rather Alexander Klegerman, who was of Polish Jewish ancestry- I've just started expanding these lines. I have yet to look into James Robertson's family.
If anyone's inclined to help expand Robbie's lines, or work on his bio (which I'll get around to, after doing some more work on connecting him), it'd be much appreciated!
