Gilles William Stroud gets baptised in Québec city in 1742 at age 23/24, and marries in 1748.  He is said to be from Manuatte (Manhattan presumably) on the baptism, but from Carolina on the marriage.  Notes list the various vagaries of records for him.  Needs research and possibly connection to his parents in New England.

Note:  Because I think it's very possible that "Manuette" is a reference to a place in the Carolinas, I added southern_colonies as a tag on this question. Also, I note that he is recorded as having renounced the Anglican religion, which I think makes it more likely that he came from one of the southern colonies than from the northern colonies known as "New England."

thanks Ellen, you are much more likely to know about this, I really have no data on the colonies outside New France.  Your ballpark.  laugh
