Sarah Hughes/Arant/Golden is named in two 1860 Alabama censuses (Lowndes and Tallapoosa counties).  No marriage record found for either marriage. Her 12 children are in date order.  Golden's FindAGrave bio has "married Sarah Arant, 5 children"

What am I missing???

I am a little confused. One is Sarah, the other Susan. Are those names interchangeable? Different spouses. I think the two have been compressed into one.

The children have different names, but are about the same age.

I do not see the name Arant on FG except in the name (and no source cited).

I suspect you are correct and the conflation started some time ago. Other than census records, there are no sources.  I'm adding children in hopes of finding some hard info.

I deleted the Hughes/Golden marriage.  I think it's all fixed.
