It seems that Mary Ann Daniel married Thomas Smith in 1831. Therefore it is unlikely that she is the mother of Thomas's daughter Elizabeth born 1800.

In the bio, Elizabeth is described as the daughter of Thomas Smith and Melcenia Weeks, both of whom have profiles here at WikiTree.

Any reason i should not connect Elizabeth to her parents Thomas and Melcenia, and leave Mary Ann as a subsequent wife of Thomas, thus a stepmother of Elizabeth?

There is Mary Ann Daniel married to Thomas Smith, and in the next generation there is Maryan Smith married to Elizabeth's neighbour Walker Daniel.  Just mentioning it because at first i was going cross-eyed over these two Mary Ann Smith/Daniel people, and so I wanted to save you a minute:  there really are two of them, and they really are different people, and seemingly not biologically related.  Thomas's daughter Maryan may have married a relative of her stepmother, though the connections aren't made here in WikiTree yet.
