When I work on my unconnected list the result is usually more unconnected profiles. My list has 31 unconnected profiles. Only one of those has 0 connections.

One of the family groups on the list has 44 connections. I know who connects them to the tree, but cannot get the mother of the 6 year old connection to add him!

Two other family groups have several on the list connected to them but no tree connection. In both cases the person who would connect them to the big tree has forbidden adding them to the tree.

So, I continue adding side branches and creating more unconnected profiles.

Thanks for sharing your experience of not being allowed to make a connection due to living children. That's a helpful explanation of unconnected branches, and obviously a valid concern. There's surely a different option for connecting via non-restricted ancestors. Wishing you success in finding them soon!
Reporting good news since my earlier post.

I continued sideways and back and found a common ancestor, born 1827, who had a WikiTree profile. I was happy to see my unconnected list cut in half that day.

Since then it has grown again. The explanation for the increase is that I am doing research for an article and need background on the subjects. Building a family tree has been a great way to develop background. I put effort into getting wide and deep enough to connect to the tree so my list does not expand too much (and because it is better for the big tree).
Thanks for the update! And best genealogical wishes from Germany for continued success in your family research endeavours!
