should Andris Eivindson Vang be a Norwegian Notable?

Andris Eivindson Vang was the published Norwegian author of "Gamla Reglo O Rispo infraa Valdris" or "Old Yarns and Rigmaroles from Valdris." and also "Gamla Segner Fraa Valdres"  Books about traditions and folklore of the people of Valdres, Norway.

He was the first person to print a book in the dialect of the people of the day.

I cannot find him at Wikipedia, but in my opinion he should be a Norwegian Notable.

Any thoughts - agree, disagree?

Possible. He has a short article on the Norwegian Wikipedia: Andris Vang

Based on our standards for Notability, even a short article in any language qualifies him as a Notable. So he's good to go.

There is a more extended article in THE Norwegian Encylopedia , telling that he was a pioneer within Norwegian folklore and source for 86 hymns, 83 songs and 13 folk tunes  documented by the famous composer L.M.Lindeman.

Thanks Scott
Thanks for the link, Rolf.

By the way, do you think it’s possible to get that article in English?
Sorry, no. This is an article from what was once a large and important encyclopedia in Norway. With the advent of internet, and competition from Wikipedia, it became obsolete with its at least 16 volumes in print. I don't think they ever will take on such a massive translation task. I don't have capacity to do it so Google translate is your best option.
I’ll see what I can do, then.

Thanks.

No, I don't think that he qualifies as a Notable. You have to do more than write a couple of books; the books should also be widely read and appreciated. As a personal testimony, I have never heard of him, and I'm probably above average interested in books and authors.

Is there a definition for Notables? Could not find it. I think it should not only be for the famous celebrities, but also for "the unsung heros" of the past. The number of books  an author has written, nor the number of readers is necessarily important, but the impact a person has made on posterity.

After reading this article on snl.no and skimmed an article in Norsk biografisk leksikon (Norwegian Biographical Encyclopedia) I think he is qualified as a notable.

Rolf - yes, we use the standards as set by Wikipedia.  So long as someone qualifies for a Wikipedia page — in any language — even if they do not yet have one, they are regarded as Notable on WikiTree.

thank you for the WikiTree notable clarification, Melanie.
