Superscript: Is there an acceptable way to make it smaller text?

Using just the tag does not generate superscript that meets the common general standard of being slightly smaller that the rest of the text.

Using x works, but is this an acceptable way to apply style to superscript on WIkiTree?

If not, is there a better way to accomplish making WikiTree superscript follow the normally accepted standard?

Thanks

Hi Eric. A strict answer is that CSS style= is nonstandard and should not be used on general person profiles. See

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:HTML_and_Inline_CSS

I agree that slightly smaller superscripts would look better. Ideally the official site-wide CSS would provide this automatically.

Edited to fix typo.

Jim, thanks for the reply. It was the answer I was assuming I would get, but I was hoping I missed something.

I will just avoid using superscript or subscript on general profiles for now since the current functionality does not really work well.

You could always create a proposal for modification of the site-wide CSS to reduce the font size. However, this tag is used widely across WikiTree, most notably for inline references, and it would have an extreme impact on readability, style and consistency, and accessibility.

Another possibility may be the creation of a new template. Is there a specific need for manually adding superscript text? Is it important that the superscript text is smaller than the preceding text?

Maybe inline references could be corralled from being affected if the markup-to-HTML conversion code were tweaked to give them a separate CSS class behind the scenes.
They do have a class assigned to them, but they are not used for styling. Even then you would be looking into CSS overrides, potential conflicts, etc.
Steven, thanks for the reply. I don't have a significant enough reason to suggest a site wide change.

Most of the usage of super or subscript can be avoided by expressing thoughts in different ways.

In the WikiTree Browser Extension I found the Readability options to make the Inline Citation size smaller so that gives the option for that usage to those who share the preference.
