Start Your One Place Study Here! (Jul 2023) [closed]

Question

Are you thinking of starting a study of a place? Not sure how to get started? Check out the One Place Studies Project page.

NOTE: If you are already a One Place Studies Project Member, you can skip to step 3 to request a new study.

1. Be a Wiki Genealogist
2. Click Answer below
3. Provide us the "place" via an email to the project google group

We will then create your page, add the categories to nest your page in the correct places, and add the project template. The rest is up to you :)

If you are unsure what else to add to your page, we can lend a hand with ideas, just ask. Remember, your Free Space Page is the front door to your One Place Study. Once opened you are walking in your ancestor's shoes!

We have an OPS Sticker which you can use on the person profiles in your study as well as a sticker for use on your profile indicating you are a member of the study.

Every Study lodged in the project puts another pin in WikiTree's Genealogy Map. Soon the village you started with overlaps with the next town and then the city beyond. Gradually a country is born.

If you are interested in being part of making WikiTree's Genealogy Map, and making an OPS, come and join us. Everyone is welcome :)

You will be awarded your badge when your OPS is nested in the project, this will give you access to our channel in WikiTree's Discord Server

I just sent you an email with a couple more details.

One Place Studies are best when they are not so large.  It is much easier for researching when the study isn't so large.  It looks like Indiana County, PA has over 23 cities.

Could you pick a city or two to start with?  We can link them under the County.  What do you think?

I would be interested in starting a one place study for Rhyolite, Nevada. It is a ghost town now. If ghost towns aren’t acceptable, then the nearby town of Beatty, Nevada would be good.

I would like to do a One Place Study of Barnesville in Belmont County, Ohio. James Barnes, my 5th great grand-uncle, was the founder of Barnesville in both Ohio and Maryland. I would like to start with the Ohio one for now as I know more about it than the Maryland one.

Hi, I wish to begin a one name study on The Old Bakery Audlem Cheshire England UK (including historically adjacent buildings) as this is my own property and starting point. The building dates from at as far back as at least the 1600's. I have done some research and found historic and genealogical links as far back as the English Civil War and even further to the Norman Conquest and before.

Many thanks for the replies. What I should have explained better was that the Old Bakery plot of land was historically a much larger area with a single owner and this is the intended subject of the study. It was historically also a Post Office, shop, cottages, farm buildings, etc. and extended from the church to the north to the school and beyond to the south. I think I have sorted out my google group problem now. best regards, David

After working on it for several months, I realized what I was doing is a one place study of the village Glauberg, Hessen, Germany, so now I would like to formally start one.
