photos of NZ merchant ships & other types, how would I share these for anyone else who may find them interesting?

Hello there everyone,

For years I have always held onto this green tin of old slides which were my grandfathers, it is only just now after doing my genealogy journey I realised that the slides were actually photos of the merchant ships and other vessels which my grandad worked on and saw back in the 1950-1960's.

I have recently used a scanner & have now got them onto my computer which I would like to share with everyone for if anyone else would find them interesting.

Apart from the labelled title of the slides, I have old seamen work cards of my grandads which can may assist with the date of when the slides were possibly taken.

If anyone can please advise how I should do this,

Thanks!

Linked to this question: is there anyone in New Zealand who has any pictures (probably watercolours) of ships by T. Robinson? Thomas Henry Alfred Robinson was my Great Uncle who emigrated from England to NZ in 1907 and became a dairyman. He had attended art college and was an accomplished painter. He was said to have supplemented his income by producing paintings of ships for their captains and officers. I have two of his early works but wonder if any others survive.

Hi Emily,

A free space page is probably the best way to go. Learn more here:

To expand on this -- the way it works is that every photo is its own object, and you can link photos to other objects and profiles .  So you upload all the photos, and for organizational purposes, link them all to a Free Space which describes the collection; and the photos can also be linked to person profiles for people in the photos.

There's multiple ways to do this but the easiest is to create the Free Space first and then use the "Images" tab from the Free Space to add images.

Well done Emily. Since you have an NZ tag, the National Library may be interested in holding copies. On the internet you should be able to find an NZ group of people or a society who will be very interested in the historical images and willing to help.

The New Zealand Project has a category for people who worked on and around ships in New Zealand waters -  [https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:New_Zealand%2C_Seafarers]
