William Bingham was a significant figure in US history, born in Philadelphia. He died in Bath in England and is memorialised in Bath Abbey. The heraldic devices on the memorial suggest a connection to the Melcombe Bingham (ie Baron Clanmorris and later Earl of Lucan family) line - Az. a bend betw. two cotises and six crosses patty or. - although the bend is sinister rather than dexter. Of course this is not conclusive and may simply have been an assumption by someone, or even a pretence.

Trees on Ancestry suggest that his father was either James or William, but there doesn't seem to be much detail beyond that and I don't know how accurate either of those is.

Is anyone able to confirm his Bingham lineage?
