Shared Photo: Jean Gay brushing Grandma’s hair.

Question

I wanted to share this family photo of Alies Poole with the community. Location: St. Maries, Benewah, Idaho, United States. Date: 1968. We lived 25 miles out of St. Maries in the Benewah. She had walked to our house, stayed a week then walked back to St. Maries. That week was the only time I had with my Grandmother… she passed away not too long after that picture was taken.

Wow! That was about an 8 hour walk, maybe more!  (my wife and I use to ride bikes 25-30 miles once a week, and that took all morning!  Thanks for sharing! Loved it!

I remember my Mom trying to talk her out of leaving that morning; she had told Gramma Alies that Dad would give her a ride home when he got home from work. I remember being sad as I watched her walk on down that old dirt road with her little brown suitcase.
