H Sara! Posting pictures on the G2G forum has taken me an eternity to learn. The "How To" is wordy and complicated, at least to me. I'm a little dyslexic and the instructions just look like a jumbled up mess to me.
Step 1. Take the picture, email it to yourself, save it to your computer (where you can find it)
Step 2. Create a Free Space page (set privacy to OPEN) to park your pictures on. Pictures pick up the locked privacy settings and will not display on the G2G Forum unless the Free Space page is OPEN PRIVACY!
* Top menu bar: My WikiTree Add Find Help
* Scroll to "New Free Space page" click on it and name it Sara's Pictures for G2G (or whatever you wish) but you will not be able to change the title later! NOW, before you leave that new free space page, COPY the URL address and paste it where you can find it I paste the URL address on my profile page under a heading(see my profile page) There is a way to find all the Free Space pages you create, but it will take another paragraph to explain it....Just copy the address and put it on your profile page.
Step 3. Add your pictures to the Free Space page by clicking on "Images" and "Click to Upload it here"
*Explain why the picture is not copyrighted ( this is my picture and I took it with my camera) (This picture was taken before 1978 and the copyright was not renewed!) This picture is subject to free use and has been shared by the original contributor) Then title it, add location (USA) then date is optional.
Step 4. Learning Curve: Go to the G2G Forum (like here) Click on Answer this post Look at the top menu bar, up above. You see Font Size, Normal, some other funky icons, then B I S X X | A A | link icons | Picture Icon| Chart Icon | ? Icons, face Icons:
Choose the picture Icon
Go to your Free Space page. Click on the the picture! Click on it again (yes again) the picture now appears on a Black Background! That is the URL Address you want to copy and paste in the Picture Icon in the top menu!
Notice that there are options to size your picture. Size your picture to 450, but not more than 500 or it will be tooooooooo biggggg! and annoying!
For a smaller picture, with text wrapping around the picture, choose a setting of width 200 and then there is a box at the bottom to make the picture appear on the right or left side of the post. The text will wrap around the picture!
This picture is how I try to help new members understand their personal family tree needs to be connected to the WikiTree by a common ancestor. Notice how the text wraps around the left side. This is because 1. I set the width size to 250, and 2. I set the Alignment to "R" (which means right side)
If these instructions are easy or hard to understand, please let me know in the comments below. I want to create an easy to understand tutorial, with pictures, so it will be ready to paste in, (or go to my Free Space page to learn), the next time a new member gets confused by the existing instructions.
EXPERIMENT! Have fun!
