2 men are jumbled on FamilySearch. I did some of the damage. It is affecting correct entry into wikitree. It is super confusing due to the 1900 Census. It is possible the Census taker made a mistake.

[[Brandesky-4|Johann Brandesky (abt.1857-1943)]]

In the image for the census, the specific lines in question are 30, 31, 40, 41.

2 men named the same first and last name (John Brandesky) about 3 years different in age (1854, 1857). They are married to women with the same first name (Josephine) whose ages are about 2 years off (1860, 1862). The immigration year is about 3 years different (1870, 1873). Their household identifier is 1 number off (106, 107).

It seems either the names were recorded incorrectly, there is a huge coincidence, it is one man with 2 families with possibly the wife's name incorrect, or they are actually the same people. The biggest difference is the names of the children.

Side note, someone that indexed this census record marked one of the wives named Josephine as male though it is written as "wife" & F. That also caused a headache where it cannot be attached to anyone.

I do not know how to untangle this. I really want it to be accurate.

What an interesting puzzle. There might be some clues from the mother-in-law and stepsons on the 1900 census. Also his FindAGrave says (without source) that he was married first to Frances Zemanek and second to Josephine Kalinec. He does have two marriage records.

I would probably work first on the WikiTree profile, adding sources and narrative, perhaps in the Research Notes section. Then I would start on the children, not adding profiles but instead research notes, looking for sources that identify the parents. That might clarify things some.

Do you have an Ancestry account? There are several trees that show him with two wives. And one has a family history written for a family reunion. That may have the clues to solve this mystery. {{Ancestry Tree|9499326|6256756905}} It says Josephine Kalinec married John Krc and they had 4 children (Victoria, Frank, Maggie, John) before he died in 1887. He married Frances Zemanek about 1879. Frances died 31 Jan 1889. They had daughters Mary, Rosie, Angeline and three who died young. John and Josephine were married 21 Aug 1889. (in a Catholic church, clue). They had six children Joe, Fred, Annie, Louis, Christine, and Betty.

Wow that history is interesting. If you are related to the family you might want to get in touch with the person who posted it.

I no longer have an ancestry account. I probably need to sign up for a month again to grab a few things. I am related to Johann. He is my 3rd gg mother's son. I guess that is a 3rd gg uncle. I have extensive genealogy information provided by a relative that passed away in the 90s. It is likely the same person that mentioned writing the history for a family reunion - Anton Wolf. I have not been to the reunions since the 80s.

I know that Johann had 2 wives. I was hoping to clean up his profile before adding wives.

Your comment prompted me to go look at Victoria from Josephine's first husband. It appears Victoria Brandesky is likely Victoria Krc. Same birth year and it would help solve the birth before Johann and Josephine married. I merged those on Family Search.

How do I look at the ancestry tree you mentioned? The forum does not create a clickable link.

Sherri you can still log into your Ancestry account, your tree is there, you can not look at hints, not sure how many facts you can view but the names are there, I have an account for my partner that I no longer pay for, i can see all the facts on his tree.. My personal Tree,  I have the basic account and can not search out of the US.

I have traced our connection on Ancestry, The husband of my 3rd Great Aunt Mary H Ottinger Reese, John Adam Reese.
