17th Century Ship with firewoorksTwenty-one of the 56 signers of the American Declaration of Independence have Puritan Great Migration (PGM) ancestors (at least according to WikiTree and some downloads done through Ancestor Explorer).  In honor of the 4th of July and America's declaration of indepenence, this month's challenge theme will focus on the PGM Ancestors John Hancock, the president of the Constitutional Congress and the first signer of the Declaration of Independence (although he didn't sign until August 2nd).

The challenge is a little bit of an experiment.  It's a "choose your own adventure" profile improvement challenge. Some profiles are close to completion; others need more work. Our past challenges have focused on bio-building, and you can certainly select a profile and fully complete the bio.  OR, we invite you to look at these profiles and see what improvement you can make.  There are some ideas below, but you can also run the profile through the PGM Profile Checklist.

  • Are there sources supporting the parents, spouses and children?
  • Is there a children's list complete with birth and marriage information? Are the children's profiles linked?
  • Do the sources have dates, pages and links?
  • Are there primary sources that can be added?
  • Can you try and break through a brick wall (and even if unsuccessful, leave some Research Notes)?

Here is a sampling of the profiles from John Hancock's paternal side:

See here for a full list of profiles see  the Challenge Free-Space Page.

10 Bounty points for correcting any tree errors, breaking through a brick wall, or bringing a profile to completion.

Are you in?  Sign up below, and let us know what improvements you are planning or have completed.

Also, if you are working on your PGM Ancestors, you can also get credit for building bios in your own tree.  Just sign up and let us know you're participating in the "Ancestor Track" and  tell us what you've completed.
Oooh ... the image gets my upvote. Very snazzy.
Thanks!  I have been playing around with some AI image creation.
Very clever!

I'm currently working on the Lincolns:

Widow Joan Lincoln and her son Thomas Lincoln.

There's not much information on Joan and Thomas is in pretty much in good shape, so just filling Joan's bio out and will add some notes to Thomas.

They were supposedly from Wyndonham, Norfolk, England.  I checked the England Project's Norfolk Wills, but didn't see anything from Wyndonham. If anyone can look for Wyndonham wills let me know!

I think the place you are looking for is Wymondham not Wyndonham. The list you linked to includes Will of John Lincolne of Wymondham, 1671.

Yes, thank you, Wymondham.  I have the hardest time sticking to the correct spelling.

I did see that will.  Unfortunately, does not provide any new insights, but still worth noting.

The Norfolk Record Office catalogue lists the inventory of Lincoln, Richard, wool chapman, of Wymondham 1634-35. I don't see him in the list of burials on Joan's page.

Thanks, Andrew.  I've moved the records to a FSP and included the will and inventory. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Lincoln_Family:_Early_Wymondham%2C_Norfolk_records
