White slavery is also used to describe women drugged and sold into prostitution.  This still happens today.  Never touch a drink delivered to your table by anyone other than an establishment employee, or after you have left the drink on the table unattended (for a bathroom break or dance.)
That is what I told my friend. She has been doing research  and I told her to come on to wikitree more information  on here., She sent me information that she found and  I was just wonderining after reading up on it.
thank  you for the tags will  read up and check  them out.
Looking in Wikipedia, white/Christian slavery (during Sumner's time) seems to be primarily related to the Barbary pirates, described here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbary_slave_trade

Problem is, there aren't very good records for these people. Estimates of the number of Europeans in slavery range from 35,000 to 1.2 million.
thanks for the info. Will pass this on to her. hopefully she will join the tree
thank you all for the replies. I take it as a no for project. so I am going to close this form. Hopefully  my friend will join so she can do her own research.
While whaling was still profitable and crews hard to come by, men were often Shanghaied in port cities such as Seattle. They were often drugged and beaten and held captive till at sea where they either worked or went swimming. This was well after chattel slavery ended. Most of my training regarding sex workers is referred to as Human Trafficking and is still thriving to this day. As Robb stated, white/Christian slavery usually alludes to the Barbary slave trade.

@ Mary  The best overall review of slavery worldwide that I have found, is compiled by Thomas Sowell. He has a few YouTube videos or several books published on the topic.

I am not . just got information from a friend who has been doing research and she found  some things and she sent me  things to read, I told her to join wikitree our tree seems to have alot of different projects.  Nothing more.
The slavery Charles Sumner was referring to in the mid 1800's was by the Barbary Pirates in north Africa to Morocco. This is different from what we typically think about slavery, primarily happening about the same time, but in USA, Caribbean, down to Brazil, where whites were the slave holders.

The Irish were white slaves in North America starting in 1625 with James VI. They were sent primarily to the Caribbean.
