I'm Lance E Sloan from Michigan, USA. I came to WikiTree as I was searching for information about my great-granduncle, Richard George Frise (1894–1972, https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Frise-3).
I became more interested in genealogy when my brother met his untimely death two years ago. I was surprised by the abundance of info I saw on FindAGrave.com, but I saw I could add more to complete the picture. As I researched online, I came across FamilySearch.org and so many pieces came together. My mother died last year and due to dementia, I feel there are many stories she could never tell me. Mom's uncle died last month and due to COVID, distance, and his inability to use a phone, there was little opportunity for us to talk during his last years. However, for many years before that, he tried to interest me in family genealogy and tell me stories of our relatives. I was never quite interested enough at the time to take close notice, but fortunately some of it stuck with me. I have his handwritten notes about the family tree and after he died, he left a collection of family photos, many of which he carefully labelled. They are proving quite helpful.
So, my question: Can anyone help me find out more about my ancestors, who are mainly based in Genesee County, Michigan for the last 150–200 years?
I'm especially curious about…
* Sloan — John Moses Sloane (1802–1885) and his ancestors
* Frise — Richard Frise(1831–1887) and his ancestors
* Lobban — Alexander Lobban (1784–1868) and his ancestors
* Garry E Frise (1888–1948), why was he hospitalized in Pontiac, Michigan for the last years of his life?
* Mary Ann (née Lobban) Frise (1885–1969), was it her husband's hospitalization lead her to divorce Garry and marry a man by the surname Wheeler?
Thanks to FamilySearch.org, I've learned a lot about my paternal grandmother's family, Douglas. I hope I can find as much history about other branches of my family tree.
