Hi Wikitreers,

Happy Memorial Day weekend in honor of this holiday I wanted to share a photo of my great Uncle Bill Gibbs who fought and died for the Stars and Stripes heroically being “KIA” January 4, 1945 in Belgium at age 24 leaving behind grieving parents, siblings and his widow

He has a hero’s story and the research has shown us in detail his last moments. The last brave act of a soldier as told in their eyes in The Sky Men: A Parachute Rifle Companys Story of the Battle of the Bulge and the Jump Across the Rhine by Kirk B. Ross (see chapter 5 regarding Gibbs)

Never Forgotten and why our family will forever love him in our hearts

My uncle Gridley-549 joined in 1937 for 2 years but the war started and just before leaving they told him he had to stay.
He made 5 jumps into combat in Europe and North Africa

509th Parachute Infantry
82nd Airborne Division

I hope you don't mind I added the Purple Heart sticker and a Patriotic background to William Gibbs profile.

Sorry for loss

Thank you for sharing your Great Uncle Bill with us.  This is what Memorial Day should be about:  Remembering those that sacrificed their life for us.
