Why can I edit most of profile except of the item that I believe to be in error?

The error is in the WikiTree ID.  It should be Cooper instead of Cooker as supported by the resources cited in the description.

The Last Name At Birth can only be edited by the profile manager or someone on the trusted list.  You should add a comment with sources on the profile so the manager will be informed of your proposed change.

Thanks, Kevin.  One source that highlights the error is in a resource provided by the profile manager who has not answered the message that I sent several days ago.
The profile manager was last active about 2 months ago so I would give her some time.

The WikiTree ID is auto-generated and tied to the LNAB (last name at birth).  The only way the ID can be changed is by changing the LNAB, and the LNAB is one of the few things that can only be changed by a profile manager.

So… your course of action is to contact the manager with whatever evidence and proof you have to support changing the LNAB, and request they make that change.

Changing an LNAB

To change a Last Name at Birth simply click the "edit" link next to it on the edit page.

To do this you need be on the Trusted List. This is true even for Open profiles because of the special significance of LNABs.
Thanks, Roxanne.  The profile manager has not answered my message.

I found a marriage source with maiden name of Cooper that is now added to the profile. I also put Cooper into Other Last Name field.

I left a message on the profile that the source with name variation has been added

Thank you for adding the other last name.  It is my belief that her ancestors will be in error if further action is not taken.  Should I ignore that potential cascade of errors?

If you sent a message to the PM already on the profile, requesting the name be changed and have not gotten a reply, you should review the Unresponsive Profile Managers process which includes sending 3 different types of messages, one of which you have already done.  If you do not hear back in a week, then you would fill out the form so Admin can try to contact them.  If they don't respond to them, then the profile that you are asking about will be orphaned and you will be notified.  Then, you can adopt it and change the name on the profile so it is correct.

I agree that having the correct LNAB on a profile is very important to make sure that the correct ancestors will be included.  The marriage source is important because that does match the Find a Grave, but it has both of their names together.  Possibly, you can find other sources, using something on the marriage source.
