Why doesn't Chrome's built in spell check work when editing text in the Biography section?

This seems odd to me since google tends to be very prolific with applying its features. The setting for spell check is turned on in the browser, and it works on other website text fields.

I wasn't sure if there was a coding thing in WikiTree that prevents google from reading what we are entering into the text fields. It would make sense considering the potential for private info being entered.

Mostly I'm curious because I seem to be editing a lot of typos out of the Biographies I've created.

Do you have the advanced editor enabled - I think that is what it is called- when you are creating profiles?

I have Chrome spellcheck and it works on biographies.
I use the Enhanced Editor and it doesn't seem to work there.

I also noticed that Chrome has a Basic Spell Check and an Enhanced Spell Check (the latter sends what you type to google for analysis), neither of which work with the Enhanced Editor. Again, I'm assuming there is something with the coding of the Enhanced Editor that prevents spell check from working (but the benefits outweigh this minimal inconvenience).

Easy workaround would be to turn off the Enhanced Editor to do a scan for any misspelled words, then switch back.

Thinking about it, when I did turn off the Enhanced Editor to test this, the Bio section lit up with all the coding info being underlined and it quite honestly was intrusive. I actually like that I can easily switch between the Basic and Enhanced editors to activate then deactivate the spell check.

Personally, I use a Grammarly Extension on my Chrome browser. It's free. You'll get an email about upgrading ever so often, but that doesn't stop you from using it.

I too use Grammarly and recently noticed it does not work with the Enhanced WT Editor. But as is noted in the other answers, I assume any external spell checker won't work with the Enhanced WT editor unless the team can determine why it does not work and find a solution.

In the meantime, I also agree that you only want to see this one time at the end of your update process to prevent going blind from all the false errors on code elements.

I did notice that it can take a few moments or switches between enhanced and basic before Grammarly will turn on. I don't know about the Google spell check.

I believe it does not work with WikiTree's Enhanced Editor. Personally, I prefer not to use spell check in the bio. Too often I am typing text from 200-300 years ago and their spelling did not match ours. In addition, I don't want it notifying me every time I type in a variant spelling for someone's name. It would probably also not like the coding, references, etc., that are being included in the biography.

If you are unsure of the spelling of a particular word, you can, as Joel said, turn the Enhanced Editor off and then back on again.
