Adding people already listed

I tried listing my grandfather. He is already in database. Says I'm not on trusted list. Contacted other genealogist. Received email I have been added to trusted list. Went to connect his entry to my father. Still says I'm not on trusted list. I'm still in the learning curve but I have spent two hours on this entry alone. I understand privacy when it comes to living people but there is something wrong when I can't enter my own long deceased grandfather. Do you have any suggestions? I'm discouraged but not out yet.

Hi Cynthia, welcome aboard.  It sounds as if things are working as they should -- you requested trusted list access to your direct ancestor, and the Profile Manager said OK.  You don't say how much time has elapsed, and I'm not sure if trusted list changes occur instantly or if a data base update is needed.  So I would give it, say 24 hours, and then if you still don't have access, inquire again to the PM, and make sure the PM got your e-mail address right.

For a direct ancestor as close as a grandfather, I would probably be inclined to ask for co-manager status.  You can always discuss the proper privacy level with the other manager too -- there's a chance that's one of your cousins you're talking to!

Thanks Susan.
Good point, Dennis.  I'd definitely ask to be co-manager on direct ancestors, like grandparents.
I have never experienced a delay when adding to the Trusted  List; it's been immediate.

I have a hunch that the profile manager on your father's profile didn't know what to do to add you to the Trusted List. From time to time, I have encountered members who thought they were adding a requestor to a Trusted List (or approving a merge), but didn't actually make the addition -- perhaps they made the change on a different profile, or maybe they thought that sending an affirmative message to the requestor was all it took to "approve" the request.

If you made the request using the "Request to join the Trusted List" link on your grandfather's profile (not the similar link on the profile manager's profile), they should have been able to add you by a simple click on the URL in the email they received about your request, and you would be added almost instantly.

If you sent them an email request, they would need to go to the Privacy tab on your grandfather's profile and type your email address in a box on that page. That's harder than clicking on a link in an email, and members sometimes have difficulty with the procedure.

If I were you, I would go back to your grandfather's profile and submit a new trusted list request.

While you are waiting for approval, do edit your father's profile to include his parents' names, and include a link to the existing profile for his father.

You can see your Requests under the My Wikitree drop down menu. There you can confirm if you have requested to be on the Trusted list and whether the request has been "completed".

If you are adding someone that is already in Wikitree, you have to connect the existing profile to your tree.  Every profile in Wikitree has a number.  It is fould at the top of the page it will be the last name + a number.

Sample: Trublood-5  --  You should not add a new profile.
