George Freeth was an American Life Guard & swimming instructor. He is referred to as the first white person to become an expert at wave surfing. His mother was a Native Hawaiian. He & fellow Hawaiian surfer, Duke Kahanamoku "The Big Kahuna" introduced the sport to the United States. He rode an 8' long solid wood surfboard. He credited with developing the rescue paddle board & the rescue can.
