I have already done the profiles for a number of people who lived or worked in that area.

Hi Devon. To attract attention to your question, try clicking the edit link just below it. On the resulting screen, in the Surnames/Tags box, enter

canada calgary categorization

as three words separated by spaces, then save. People who follow these tags and are experienced in these areas will then be more likely to see the question.

Nice try, Devon, but the tags need to go in the Surnames/Tags field, not the large box :-)

hi Devon,

Just been looking through Google to find this, all I find are related to Nose Creek, West Nose Creek, and Nose Creek Park.  I don't see that Nose Creek as such was ever a separate municipality.  We don't normally drill down to street level for categories, nor ''neighbourhoods''.

What you might consider is a one-place study, which can and does do this sort if thing.

A one-place study is exactly what I would like to do for this particular area located between Bridgeland-Riverside and Mayland Heights.  In the late 1800's to the mid-1900's it used to have ranches, homes and businesses.  I have written profiles of a number of people who used to be associated with this lost neighborhood and I'd like to be able to group them together, please!

contact One Place Studies project, they will tell you how to do this and get you started with examples and category.

Hi Devon, I googled Calgary 1950s Nose Creek area and found a historical map with names of property owners who lived along the creek.  In the 1950's my parents and I would visit mom's sister and family who lived there.  My cousins and I would walk across the creek on the train bridge that was close to where they lived. Good luck in your endeavours.

I'm glad someone knows what I'm talking about.  There used to be quite a community down there - all gone now, though.
You're right, not too many people have ever heard of Nose Creek.  I see there is a facebook group that is trying to save some of that area as open space rather than total development.  I was born in Calgary and have many relatives around there but I moved away in the 1970's and am not familiar with anything there now.  My uncle had an auto-wrecking/junk dealer kind of business in the 1950's and 1960's.  And they had a grumpy old one-eyed dog that growled at me every time I went near him.  haha.  It's funny the things that a person remembers 60 years later.  Good luck!

I received a lot of help, especially from Sandy Patak,  and now we have a one place study set up for Nose Creek, Alberta.  For a long time the Calgary section near the Bow was quite a seamy area so it's going to be fun working on early residents.  Nowadays it's much more dull with the zoo parking lot and the Telus Science Centre.
