Amos Steeves - death possibly somewhat exaggerated?

i wonder what happened here -- was the newspaper announcement premature, and Amos lived after all? Did he grow up to be [[Steeves-1387|Amos David Steeves (1863-1933)]]? Or is there a confusion with his brother [[Steeves-2159|Ira Steeves (abt.1858-1880)]], who actually did die of diphtheria that year at the age of 22, but not that month? Or is there another Hugh Steeves / Amos Steeves father-son pairing in the same area? Or another Hugh/Amos set that is not actually a Steeves family, and the newspaper got it wrong? I'm just trying to connect this young man to the tree, since all Steeves are related to each other.

Cheers

Apparently, Amos is an unusual name in that family.  There is only 1 Amos, son of Hugh in the Steeves Descendants.  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Steeves-1387

Ira died in Feb.  The newspaper entry in April was probably a correction for the earlier one.  https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/114072557/ira-steves  It's hard to read the stone.

Thanks Stu!

I'm just trying to connect up the unconnected Steeves family members -- I guess the thing to do here is to merge this Amos with Amos David Steeves (who lived to a reasonable age and had children) along with a note explaining what we think happened.

What will become of the categorization when merged?
You could merge that profile with Ira since that's likely who it was meant to be.  The categorization fits.
good idea. thanks!
The diphtheria part of the categorization fits.  The county seems problematic.  I think he was actually in Albert County, no?  I could delete the St John's County categorization?  I don't know much about the counties in 1880.
Yes, he was in Albert County.  The newspaper was in Saint John. In 1880 the counties were as they are now.
That's understandable then, that whoever saw the second announcement with very meager info would have categorized it as Saint John county. I deleted that category and left the Albert County diphtheria category.  I think it is all done now. Somehow the merge even took the profile off the unconnected list, without having to wait 24 hours for the connection to register!

Thanks for your expert assistance!
