Was Jenkin Davis, PGM immigrant the son of John Davys and Agnes Samon of Wiltshire, England?

Hi,

I'm trying to do some due diligence before proposing a merge for Jenkin Davis, of Lynn, Massachusetts.  This profile claims he is the son of Agnes Samon, and connects him to several siblings.  There is indeed a marriage of Agnes Samon to a John Davys 18 October 1575 in Eisey, Wiltshire, England, but I couldn't find any connection to Jenkin.

If anyone could double check to see if there's any possible connection and also see if there are sources for the family group, so they will at least be sourced even if Jenkin needs to be disconnected.

Thank you for any help!

The 1575 marriage seems solid. The listed children seem to be associated with a hodgepodge of places:

  • John 1574 location unknown
  • Thomas 1582 England, d.1626 Melksham, Wiltshire
  • Christopher born 6 Feb 1582 Detin, England; baptized 17 FEB 1582 Steyning, Sussex; Residence Oxford, Oxfordshire
  • Samuel 1584 Marlborough Wiltshire, d.1626
  • Jenkin 1587 England
  • Alice 1594 location unknown
  • Samuel 1605 location unknown

I cannot find records online to validate Christopher and Samuel. The others are too vague to do anything with.

Thomas was not buried at Melksham in 1625/26 or 1626.

Detin does not seem to be a valid place.

John was born before the marriage.

32 years is a long time for a woman to be bearing children, though just possible with Agnes' claimed birth date.

All this suggests to me that this is a nonsense family, if these people existed at all.

Nice work, as always, Andrew. --Gene
Thank you, Andrew.  It does look quite cobbled together.  I was hoping to find out whether there are any known children for John Davis and Agnes Samon, but Davis being a common name, it would probably be a lot of work. For now, I will add the appropriate "Disputed Family" boxes, and detach Jenkin for the merge.

Thanks again for your insight.
