Family Tree dna 67 places me within 4 markers of Match with a William Irick from Tennessee.

Trying to locate traces of Henry (i) Irick from 1860 Pa. Census of Lancaster Pa who was living with the John Mumma Family. He was from Baden,Germany and was ten years old in 1860.

Could not find Henri (y) anywhere after this one encounter. Possibly there are Families who have records of this young gentleman sometime from 1850 to 1900+ ?

Thank you,

      "Bo"

Boyd Vincent Garbutt

Ps: Grandfather William J. Garbutt is shown in the 1880 Pa. Dauphin County Census as: Adopted Son (ADS) of Frank and Elizabeth Garbutt, Wisconisco, Pa. formerly of Yorkshire, England.

Your Y67 GD 4 match with William Irick from Tennessee could be as close as a 4th cousin, but more than likely it is beyond the genealogical timeframe. Do you match any other Irick men?

If you are looking for your grandfather's biological family, you would be better off with an autosomal DNA test from Ancestry or My Heritage. They have a much larger database of autosomal testers than FTDNA does. On either website, you have a good chance of finding second cousins and third cousins. Then you can use DNA adoption tools and methods to determine who your grandfather's biological family was.

Did you look at the Tip report. I show for GD 4, a time range of 1100-1800 CE with an estimated average of 1500 CE. As already mentioned,  if the common ancestor lived in 1500 CE its not likely you will find usefully genealogical records that would prove who your biological paternal ancestor was. Also as mentioned an autosomal test at Ancestry DNA would likely be more useful to you for looking for more recent ancestors such as in the 19th century. Also, I've found that the Big Y700 test is more useful than just the  Y12-Y111 STR morkers tests.  Understand that not that many people do Y-DNA testing compared with autosomal testing. Most people test to see what their ethnicity estimate says, and aren't really interested in genetic genealogy. You should get many autosomal DNA matches who live in PA or whose ancestors lived there.
