I noticed no Leyde ONS (Mom's name) and lots of orphaned Leydes. I adopted the orphans and am now Leyde ONS. Quo vadis?

Am I in over my head?  My thought was just to strengthen my tree's spine back to John (Johann) Leyde (1732-1810) and then unfold the branches from the top to collect all the orphaned Leyde's as I go.  I only adopted the ones I can find on my MyHeritage and Ancestry trees (all but one).  I hope to connect to the big WikiTree along the way, probably with John himself who married into the famous Rosenkrans family in 1757 a year after Arreantje's first husband Petrus Westfall was killed by Indians at the start of the French and Indian War.

So what am I missing here?  Am I being naive?  Any help is appreciated.

Addendum: following my own supposition, I found Arreantje as Rosenkrans-100 and her husband John Lyde my GGGGF as Lyde-45.  I have written to the responsible person for Lyde-45 asking to merge him with Ledye-61.  So that should help to extend the New Netherlands Project down to the present day in my family line.  But my question still stands.  Am I going about this the right way?  Thanks for any answers.

The profile manager for Lyde-45 hasn't made a contribution in over one year, so initiate the merge yourself.

Thanks, Alan.  This is helpful.  I initiated the merge and I guess it's now a waiting game.

There is no right or wrong way to run an ONS.  If you look at other ONSs, you will see a vast difference in text, images etc.  You don't even need to adopt all Leydes (or your Watchlist will soon blow up!).  Here are links to my 3 ONSs for you to have a look at:
Ball Name Study
Haywood Name Study
Murch Name Study

I am not saying these are perfect, or the-way-you-must-do-yours; they are just samples.

Hi Ros,

Thank you for sending these 'typical' ONSs.  I am most impressed with them and the Haywood One-Name Study.  This clearly was a lot of loving elbow grease.  I only wish that I had gotten started here when I began 'seriously' putting my family tree together nearly two decades ago, but that's water under the bridge.  I will try in my modest way to emulate your sites.  Are there any tweaks or shortcuts for developing any of the pages or are they all head-down, bum-up hard slogs?  I have an MS in IT so my head is already starting to blow up. :-)

I am glad I put all the orphaned Leyde's on my watchlist, though, because that's handy as I work from the top down adding them to the Big Tree.  Later I'll look for orphans under the nine other spellings of 'Leyde'; one thing that stands out is that my pioneer ancestors couldn't spell 2 gud.

Thanks again for your post.  Awesome!

Blessings,

Ray

Thank you for the compliments. *blush*.  I'm glad the links were of help.

Wow, Ros, thanks heaps!

One quick question, if you will: how did you add the sections ("Meaning and Origin," "Notable Namebearers," etc.) on your ONS page?  Please point me to the instructions page.

Addendum: Please disregard my question.  I found the answer by looking at source code.  The answer is simple (find the right [Edit] link) but I never would have known to look without your help.  Thanks again!

Thanks again,

Ray
