2ndry Sources: They all have their merits and they all have their faults. What are considered the most reliable (and why) for 1600 and pre 1600 Ireland from Cokayne, Lodge, Cracroft, Kimber, JStor articles. Surnames are frequently correct , forenames not so much. I am presuming that discrepences should be noted under Research Notes

I would prefer to avoid most rejigged genealogies and go look back to real sources. I have been documenting them in Early Modern Irish Sources which I add to as and when I find new sources of interest.

As to the items on your list, JSTOR articles vary enormously. Good articles cite their sources. If the source still exists, use that. If there is no source for a statement, don't rely on it. John Lodge was extremely meticulous and had access to documents that no longer exist, but in his Peerage he made use of previously published genealogies, some of which have subsequently been shown to be wrong. I would rather rely on his Parliamentary Register, Abstracts of Court Rolls or his collection of state papers.

Is there a link to a WT profile? Can we see an example of what you are talking about? There are many reasons why names vary in documents, the usual practice is to list each version of a persons name with a description of the document in which that name is found. Including this in the body of a bio. can help the reader follow a person's timeline.
