Is it correct to commence a new profile which is similar to original and add things that cannot be proved?

Hi. There is a profile of my Great Grandfather Biddulph-178 and now Biddulph-363. The first isnt owned by me and the info placed in the profile is not varified. I spoke to owner and she agreed to not having her info on there. But decided to open another profile Biddulph-363 which can be traced to 178. The new profile has information on it that cannot be varified but she put it up anyway. Is this a fair thing to do?

Flossie, except in a couple of rare cases the answer to your question is no. See

Is it ever acceptable to intentionally create a duplicate?

It sounds as if the two profiles need to be merged.

Hi Jim

Thanks for your comment.

Kind Regards

Flossie
ps I added some information to the first profile because he is my Great Grandfather.

You can create a free space and link it to the sole profile. A free space can be formatted any way you choose. You could have a heading for each "fact" and underneath explain your reasoning and include the source(s). This can often lead to clarity (at least for me).

I agree with Jim's comment, no!

There are other ways to track unverified information, such as with notations, highlighting, or a separate section of the Biography, etc... But there should only be one Profile per person.

Hi Daniel

Any information added to this new profile is hearsay only.

Thanks for your reply

Information that needs verification can be placed in a research notes section.
