What should I do with this profile?

I adopted some orphaned profiles which belonged in a family group I was working on. They were all unsourced. I have found sources for them and have written short bios for those I know a little about. This profile Ann Hynd was in the family group also unsourced. She isn't a child of the parents although all the other orphaned profiles were. I thought she might be attached to wrong parents in error and tried to find her birth record. She doesn't appear to have ever existed. Should I disconnect her from the family? What is the right thing to do? She has a tag that she is part of a one name study although checking the page the study doesn't seem to be active?

I would add a research note stating what you did or didn't find.  If you can't connect her to the listed parents, then detach her and explain why in the research notes.
Thanks Kathy. I have attached a research note and explained all the places I have looked for sources.

Have you checked these sources? Dates and place correlate well. Mother's maiden name Strachan instead of Oastler. Her parents shown on disconnected profiles may be wrong.

The William Hynd who married Elizabeth Strachan in 1858 and was 21 at the time. I have his marriage certificate. Weirdly, someone had uploaded it to Ancestry and attached it to Elizabeth Oastler. SO it may be that these two families have been conflated on trees in the past. I've been untangling Hynd families for a couple of days and am grateful for a fresh pair of eyes. Thank you. They are all from the same couple of families and the usual repeating of grandparents names for offspring causes much confusion. I'll go see if she belongs with them. I didn't want to leave her unconnected.
Yes it makes it difficult when people add the wrong connections. Hopefully you can make sense of it all. Good luck

Cheers, Rich

That family are here on Wiki tree too

Ann Hynd is already in the family Ann Hynd with an incorrect birth date. Again they are orphaned profiles. Do you think I should merge the two Anns? I'll add proper sources. I might have to come back to it after a cup of tea though!

I have found 2 census for same year for William and Elizabeth, but different children.  Both William born in Dunfermline.  Stupid Scots kept using the same names for all the families!! Makes it very difficult to sort out.

I found the missing census for the profile for William Hynd-345, looks like they had a 2nd son William. I am working on adding the family list to the ones you entered and then will put in the missing census.  Having the family list helps a great deal to make sure the children stay consistent, unfortunately as you noted, they had several di early.
Hi Linda, you actually sorted out one of the Henry Hynds in this family a couple of weeks ago. I just took a look at the William Hynd and Elizabeth Strachan profiles and they have issues! Siblings born more than 40 years apart, father too young were just a couple of the issues. If you put Hynd and Dunfermline in name search loads come up with estimated birth dates and death dates all exactly the same. I'll sort out the ones I can.

Yes the joy of Scottish names. Hopefully a few middle names might have been given out. There are also lots of this family buried in Dunfermline cemetery with good information on memorials children that died young so I'm adding the died young children to help make sense of the Census data.

I do appreciate everyone taking a look. As I say fresh eyes do help.
That 'other' Willian and Elizabeth has William born in Perth, so it isn't the one that I found that was born in Dunfermline a few years later than the William you are working on.

Well, I just lost all of the work I did.  I had a draft saved multiple times, but when I went to save it, with all the census, it said it was saved already, and my draft has none of my saved work!!
Oh no how frustrating. This William definitely married Elizabeth Oastler. or Ostler. The information on the profile for William and Elizabeth Strachan is all completely wrong and Unsourced. He was born in Dunfermline and he wasn't born in 1860 as he married in 1858. which is why wiki data is saying he is too young to have the children he does. The person who originally created all these Hynd profiles guessed birth dates and death dates or copied it from bad trees perhaps. They all have the same birth and death dates about 1860 to about 1930. Sometimes they are out by 30 years or more but all the relationships match up. Perhaps they intended to come back and source them later and make corrections but for whatever reason they didn't. I quite enjoy solving these type of puzzles. Elizabeth Strachan and William Hynd are tricky because William's father also William Hynd wasn't married to his mother. I don't therefore know which William Hynd he is as there is no marriage record to get parents names from and no other children to compare census data to. I'll leave my William for now and go add what I can in research notes to Hynd-198. I will also double check to see if there is a William Hynd born in Perth who married in Perth in 1880. Then I'll head to bed!
I saved William Hynd-345 who was married to Elizabeth Oastler.

I found a marriage for William Hynd marrying Elizabeth Strachen in Dunfermline in 1858, which might match up to the children, born to William Hynd-198.

Amazing all of those children died about 1950!!
I'm adding notes right now. I have the marriage certificate.

Rich, you can't use Record Results from Scotlands People links.  They are valid only for your session and they won't work for anyone else and not necessarily for you, if you return or if you try it in an hour.  Scotlands People links in all profiles must be changed, if people included any link other than the main website.  All information must be included in the citations, as stated in the Scotland Source examples page

The FS Birth source is a different date than the date in the Ann Hynd-565 profile, so the person with that date might be associated with a different set of parents.

Scotlands People has an Ann Hynd, with mother's maiden name of Strachan, born in 1867 in Dunfermline, which matches the FS source.

There are 3 other Ann / Mary Ann Hynd, born in Dunfermline from 1860 (mother's maiden name Hynd), 1868 (Mary Ann with mother's maiden name Walls), and 1868 (mother's maiden name Stewart)

There is only one William christened in Dunfermline, which matches William Hynd-345, who married Elizabeth Oastler.
Linda, yes I understand that. Only used the links to show the info. was from SP. Of course, anyone wanting to link could search again with info provided.

Cheers, Rich.

I have added the census records and birth index records for her and her correct family under research notes so you can now correct the parents and entry and profile
