What words do I put into Wiki+ to get a list of Iowa Unknowns that  fall into the "Need Profiles Created" category? Thank you!

Hi Pam. Try a WikiTree Plus text search with this text search string:

LastNameatBirth=Unknown Iowa CategoryFull=Needs_Profiles_Created

(You need to click the Get Profiles button.) See this link for help. The URL for the above search, in a separate tab with profiles sorted by birth date, is

https://wikitree.sdms.si/function/WTWebProfileSearch/Profiles.htm?Query=LastNameatBirth%3DUnknown+Iowa+CategoryFull%3DNeeds_Profiles_Created&MaxProfiles=500&SortOrder=BiDa

Wikitree + Query for Last Name at Birth=Unknown with Iowa location, with Category Needs Profiles Created

Jim's link didn't give you the left side of Wikitree + so you could 'change' the Query or sort.

That was deliberate. Personally I find it useful to keep a copy of a URL like the one above which gives the results immediately in a separate tab (with more space for the results); edit the URL as appropriate; then open it in a browser.

Linda's link is better if you would rather have the side panel and edit the text search string in the limited space visible for it, then click Get Profiles.
Since she said she wanted to try it with different categories and might not have used wikitree +, I thought it would be more useful to see what is being used, so she could change it.
The first part of my answer did describe that method.

You can change the category in the URL in the second part of the answer: just replace

Needs_Profiles_Created

in what I gave by the name of the new category, with underscores for spaces.

It's clumsy to do that in the panel, because the field for the text search string is narrow, and the important bit is hidden till you move the cursor sideways. If you keep a copy of the URL in your own text editor, changing it there is an attractive alternative in my opinion. Working that way, you can also keep the copy of the URL for convenient reuse.
Jim - your response was very helpful because it showed me the process....I work on Unknowns and, knowing there's a connect-a-thon coming, I remembered that there were a bunch I couldn't solve...but that might be solved if additional children, siblings, etc were created....so I wanted to go back to those. Thanks for contributing to my understanding of the wonderful WIki+...it does soooo many things I don't yet understand!!
I'm glad this was helpful, Pam! WikiTree Plus is a very powerful tool, but it has quite a steep learning curve :-)

Pam,

Go to this page and you will find them.  They are mixed in with other Unknowns that need profiles created, but there are a few of them.

Thank you, but I want to learn how to program it using different categories...what did you put in? (Trying to do better with categories and I find them daunting!!)

check the Help Page for Wikitree +.  Ales has been revising it to add more detail.

If you go to where I said "See this link for help" earlier, you will end up at the appropriate section of that Help page.

Thank you all - I now have tools to learn something new!! Hooray for G2G!!
