Francis Edward or Edmund Milner-2008, If anyone can help me sort out his profile I would be thankful.

Francis was born in 1889, to Francis James Milner and Marian Wilkinson. I can trace him to Australia in 1911 arriving on the "Orveito" in South Australia. Enlisting in the Military for WW1, living and working as an "Orchadist" in Wakerie South Australia.

He married my mothers Aunt Evelyn Isabel Nichols-17174  in 1924, for there they journeyed to South Africa settling in Durban. I have found records of her death only probate, but no divorce.

I have been on gro, free reg, and freeBDM looking for him. His military records are in the NAA, Australia. There is only one record of him on Family search that I can find and the is family parish records

This morning I found records of him with different birth dates and passing in America, his brother which I have not added went to the goldfield in Western Australia. Which I have to write up yet..

Whether the confusion lay with his mother marrying 3 times, I don't know.

I hope I've added enough information.

Frank Milner  Just learning how to use these links

Part of me is doubtful as the birth date is out by 9 yrs. But some of the info matches

Sorry, I didn't see your message sooner - went back down the rabbit hole!!!laugh

I have to apologise, as I have conflated two people together.

Here's what I've found so far, after separating my own mistakes:

  • Francis/Frank Milner, in the 1950 Census at Royal Oak, Michigan. He was 68 in April of 1850, born around 1882. He states his birthplace as England... He's a widowed office clerk at an auto body factory. He lives and works with his step-son, Norman S Johnson.
  • However, in the 1940 and 1930 Censuses, he states his ages as 47 and 41 respectively, which puts his est. birthdates as 1893 and 1889...
  • And after much searching, I've found the marriage of Francis Milner to Sadie Johnson, in Lucas, Ohio, in 1926. His father's name is Francis Milner, and his mother's name is Elizabeth Beasley. He was born sometime around 1888 in England...
  • Frank and Elisabeth had a daughter as well. er name was Lizzie Florence Milner, and she married Frederick Winwood in 1911 in Cornwall, Stormont, Ontario. Lizzie was born about 1889 or so. A huge clue found on the record itself, and not in the transcription, is that the bride, Lizzie, was from Birmingham.
  • Thanks to this, I've located both Lizzie and Frederick's birth records (from the GRO Index on FreeBMD) and have finally proven that Frank Milner was born in Birmingham on the 25th of November, 1881! Two different people. *sigh* That was fun.
Thank you, it was just as I was thinking, needed someone else to tell me. My step Grandmother's story was he died somewhere between South Africa and England during the start of WW2, finding it difficult to prove.
I apologise again!

Thanks for letting me help!
