GEDI Challenge (December 2022)

Question

Hi WikiTreers,

Will you join our GEDImprove (GEDI) Challenge this month?

For this challenge, improve profiles created from old GEDCOM imports, using a "whole profile approach" described on the GEDI Space Page. From the spreadsheet pick a GEDCOM, click on the GEDCOM to open the tab, select a profile, then update the spreadsheet to note that you are working on the profile. When you finish the profile, return to the spreadsheet and update the status for that profile.

There is no individual challenge scoring, but we are tracking our collaborative effort for the month, and showing our progress on individual GEDCOM. You will gain contributions, and we are collectively improving the tree.

Last month there were just over 800 profiles improved with over 550 of those via GEDI.

News:

* The 124-Decoursey.ged GEDCOM has been removed from the GEDI list, for now. It can still be worked on.

* There are several browser extensions that can help you improve GEDCOM imported profiles. The WikiTree Sourcer extension will help you find sources and generated biography text using those sources. Both AGC and Bio Check are in the WikiTree Browser Extension. Use AGC to clean the GEDCOM and Bio Check the profile by Saving a Draft.

I cleaned up the profile then added sources to https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Blais-215, but did not know how to update the spreadsheet. Apolline is part of the AntoineBlais gedcom.

On the sheet for the GEDCOM, on the row for the profile, just put your WikiTree Id (Macklem-13) in the reviewer Id column and in the status column pick Improved from the pull down menu.

If you have the WikiTree Browser Extension installed and the BioCheck feature enabled, it will check the profile when you move the mouse over the save draft button.

Oh no. We are always working on profiles. It takes a while to pull the totals for all the gedcom that we have published, so we usually start pulling them before actual month end. It is always a benchmark of where we are to show progress in each month.

I think I straightened up 3 last month that weren't on the spreadsheet from Pioneer Stock.

Half way through the month numbers look like it will be typical for the number of improvements. It's great to keep seeing progress!

Its been a long time since we have added a new GEDCOM, but if you would like to look at something different, see the new Bates GEDCOM. It looks like it might be interesting, especially if you like to work in Massachusetts. (And, if you have always wanted to add some dates and sources for Harry Doe, here's your chance!).
