dubious reference category??

I've seen the reference "First-hand information as remembered by [member name] on [date]" on several profiles of people born 1820+ and/ or died 1900+. Do we really have members old enough to "remember" things that happened 150+ years ago? Is this just a "cop-out" reference??

I have these “first-hand information” things on profiles much older than these.

I’ve seen it frequently too, I think it usually appears on some of the early profiles that date from about 2014, usually from an import of data. Quite often the person who entered the information is no longer active on here.

If I can add information to the profile I will do. Some have so little information it makes it very difficult to find out more.

You can usually treat both "first-hand information as remembered by" and "unsourced family tree handed down to" as cop-out. They are default options offered when trying to create an unsourced profile.
