The WikiTree Rangers are an essential project where members take responsibility for protecting our free, shared tree.
Each Ranger takes one or more 1-hour shifts per week, which allows us to protect the tree 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Rangers serve and protect the community in a vital way simply by being on duty and staying alert. We watch for:
-
Vandals intentionally causing damage.
-
New members accidentally doing harm.
-
Unexpected technical problems.
We do this by watching over some key activity feeds every 10 minutes or so. If we spot a "forest fire," we report it.
To be a Ranger, you must have ...
-
... at least three months of experience on WikiTree, with a minimum of 1,000 contributions.
-
... participation in at least one other project.
-
... the ability to commit to at least one 1-hour shift per week.
It's also important that you have not been involved in a mentoring situation or had a Referral badge within the last three months. You can read more about being a Ranger on the project page.
