Need help finding Isam C. Brewer in census records in USA

Question

Isam C. Brewer-7169.  His grave stone says born 1846, but his 1900 census at Holston, Washington Co, VA states born April 1855 NC, and his 1910 census same location states born 1855 NC.

I can not find him in 1850, 60, 70, or 1880. I can not find him in 1920, the last before death.

In 1880 census he should be married to Louisa Ellen Brewer and have one son John Thomas Brewer.

In 1920 census he should be living in the area of Marion or Chilhowie, Smyth Co, VA.  His wife died after him, so they should be listed together in 1920 census.

His children are well documented.  His first born child was born at Laurel Springs, Alleghany Co, NC.  I feel, but have not proven, Isam C. Brewer is connected to the Brewer families of Grayson Co, VA.  I believe his wife is from the Testerman families of Ashe Co NC.  These three counties are all connected.

I spent a fair amount of time looking in the missing census record years for him without any success. I do think if you have lots of spare time, you could do a page by page search in Washington County, VA in 1920 since he was there in 1910 and died there. B in Brewer could easily been incorrectly read as P, R, or D.
