Primary Photo . How do I stop a photo placed as a primary photo automatically.

Each time I enter a new individual photo into a persons profile it immediately becomes a "Primary Photo". To remove the Photo I then have to go back into the profile three time to remove the photo from being nominated as the Primary Photo. Can the process be such that action has to be taken to nominate the Photo as the Primary , rather than it occurring automatically.

Help always appreciated .  Bruce Donaldson - Donaldson-1027

When you upload an image, there is the option to DE-select it as primary.  Click that checkbox, and it won't be the primary image.
Thank you Melanie. I have done what you suggested however I do not find it that simple.  When I uncheck the Primary Photo box and go to save  changes the process then reverts back automatically  to  being the Primary photo.  This question has been asked continually  since 2017  and still not resolved.  To ensure that the photo or source does not become the Primary Photo you have to take three specific independent actions. Maybe I am just wrong and would willingly accept being corrected.   Bruce Donaldson 1027
What are the three specific independent actions?  It works for me as Melanie has said.  For eleven years now.
Bruce, are you saving after de-selecting?

I deal with images an awful lot, and I have never had any problem setting an image to NOT be the primary image, and I don't do it in three separate actions.  I do just as I explained - upload, deselect, save.  One complete "transaction" as it were.

Hi  Melanie and Ros, I do appreciate your support. In response.

*Yes Melanie I do save  but in then automatically resets the tick box which again make  the new image the  P.P

*I notice that this does not happen if there is a a pre-existing P.P.

* So is my problem  replicated by any of you if you up load a fresh P.P to a profile which does not have a pre-existing P.P.

Ros the steps I have been going thru are  , based on the fact that  there is no pre-existing image  as the P.P.       So   a fter up load .. 1) Uncheck   P.P box &  save     2) Go back & uncheck P.P. again because it reverted to Make  P.P.  the new  Pic on Profile. ..........  3) Go to Edit and  uncheck  P.P. again  save .... finish ... Great no P.P.  on  Profile .

What I don't understand as to why  the new image defaults to becoming a P.P.

Thanks for you kind suggestions . Always appreciate help. You are both great WickiTee..ers .

What's a P.P? Sorry to be dense.
And at a guess, are you saving on the profile?  Actually, you need to save on the image page.  Scroll right down and save.  If you go back to the profile without saving on the image page, then yes, it will revert.
Hi Ros , My shorthand , sorry  Primary Photo .

Cheers  Bruce .
Ros  , O.K.  Well that looks like the answer I need . I will try it and report back. Good to know that it has reverted for you .

Thanks etc  Bruce
Hi Ros and Melanie ,  Despite doing as you suggested  Ros , given that the Primary Photo space is vacant  on the profile, after  first unchecking when I go to save it reverts to become the Primary Photo again .  I rechecked with Help for Primary Photos and it indicates that the only way to remove it is via going to "Edit" and Unchecking at the base  R H S.  I would prefer that it did not place the uploaded photo the Primary Photo in the first stage of the process. Thanks again. I  Bruce .
Bruce, I wonder if that's something to do with your browser, as I have never had a checkbox re-check itself after I uncheck it.  (I use Edge and Opera on a windows machine.)

I just had to do some experimenting.

An image uploded to a profile that does not yet have a primary photo gets set as primary phote by default, as we know.

Unchecking it, on the photo page, as primary photo for the profile in question and then clicking "Save Changes to Image Details... leaves the photo as still the unwanted primary photo. I tried this twice.

Then I unchecked the "set as primary photo" on the photo page again - and clicked the button immedately underneath the checkbox. That did it.

The button has the text SET PRIMARY, but evidently works also to "unset".

Right, here it is step-by-step.

1. Go to the image page by clicking on the image.
2. Scroll down until you see on the right hand side the little checkbox for 'Set As Primary Photo'.
3. Untick it. DO NOT LEAVE THIS PAGE.
4. Scroll down again scroll down scroll down
5. On the left hand side is a dark green button 'Save Changes to Image Details' - click that.
6. Go back to the person's profile and press F5, which refreshes the page.  You should see the primary photo as the generic picture of a man or a woman.

There you are.

Same thing, to a degree, when first uploading an image when then is no existing Primary.

  1. Upload the image with disclaimer why you can use it. (This automatically places you on the image page.  DO NOT LEAVE THIS PAGE.)
  2. Scroll down until you see on the right hand side the little checkbox for 'Set As Primary Photo'.
  3. Uncheck it. DO NOT LEAVE THIS PAGE.
  4. Scroll down again scroll down scroll down
  5. On the left hand side is a dark green button 'Save Changes to Image Details' - click that.  The page should reload.

I don't remember ever needing to go back and refresh the profile, but it's not a bad habit to get into.

You don't *have* to refresh the page.  It just helps some people who think a change hasn't happened. :)

Hence why I said it's not a bad habit to get into.   Anything that minimises stress is good.  yes

Hi Ros and Melinda, Thanks so much for all your help with this problem I am having. Your solution/s  are  great . I really appreciate your support.
