1300 account - Help with clarification on legit parentage

Question

I am looking at the parents of Thomas Whitney

Thomas Whitney (abt.1385-aft.1432) | WikiTree FREE Family Tree

The information listed in the bio of his father Robert II is actually the bio of his father Robert I.  Mary Cromwell was Robert II's mother and his wife was Wintelan Oldcastle (b. 1392).

All this being true...wouldn't Thomas be Robert II's brother?

If I understand correctly the source of the information about the connection of Thomas to these Roberts is another wiki. Our profile in this case does not appear to be not based off the two HOP articles discussed in the post here on G2G?

I would tend to trust HOP articles if I had no time to double check, but HOP does not really seem to be the source we are being asked to accept?

The other websites might be great, but I think in order to judge them here we need more transparency about which primary sources are being used. There is just too much much on the internet which looks good on the surface but isn't.
